Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the late nineteenth century, advances in metalworking allowed for pressed and embossed sheet brass to be manufactured efficiently. Jardinieres and pedestal planters became popular interior features in Victorian homes, designed to display exotic house plants and botanical specimens in formal living spaces.

These pieces were typically constructed from thin sheets of rolled brass that were pressed into decorative moulds to create raised patterns. The components, such as the upper basin, turned stem, and weighted foot, were assembled using soldered joints and internal structural rods.

Authentic period pieces display age-appropriate wear, hand-soldered seams, and minor irregularities from the pressing process. Look for aged oxidation on unpolished undersides, traditional joining techniques, and historical casting marks around handles or base joints.

Position the planter in a sunlit bay window, empty alcove, or beside a sideboard to add height and warm metallic tones. Pair it with dark greenery, such as ferns or trailing ivy, to contrast against the polished brass finish.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry microfibre cloth to prevent build-up. To maintain the shine, use a non-abrasive metal polish sparingly, ensuring no residue accumulates within the pressed relief details, and avoid harsh chemical cleaners.
