Description

Circa 1910. An exhibition quality mahogany and inlaid folio cabinet by ‘Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh’, designed in the French taste the solid shaped top with beaded and cross banded fore-edge, he front with a pair of curved doors with French Rococo gilded handles, with Kingwood banding, beneath a pair of curved inlaid marquetry doors, which open to reveal two banks with pull out shaped folio trays each with a pair of pierced handgrips, the gables with panels in finest feathered mahogany, the fore-edges with inlaid panels, beneath the doors there is a shaped frieze that follows the forms of the doors, all resting on stylish Whytock & Reid Lorimer-style feet

This exhibition quality Edwardian folio cabinet originates from around 1910, produced by the esteemed Edinburgh firm Whytock & Reid in the French taste. Constructed from mahogany, walnut, and kingwood, the warm brown timber displays striking flame veneers and intricate foliate marquetry scroll inlay in dark woods. The upper section comprises a pair of curved drawers fitted with ornate gilded brass drop handles, positioned above curved doors and a smoothly shaped apron.
