Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian fire irons from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries are distinguished by their balanced proportions, hand-forged steel or brass construction, and turned finial handles. Shovel pans from this period frequently feature hand-pierced decorative patterns to reduce weight and filter ash.

These tools were predominantly crafted from wrought iron and polished steel, occasionally accented with cast brass handles or urn finials. The steel components were turned on lathes to create knopped detailing along the shafts.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of hand-forging, such as slight asymmetry in the turned knops, hand-cut rivets securing the shovel blade, and wear consistent with heat exposure. Modern reproductions often feature machine-threaded joints and uniform casting seams.

Position the set beside an open fireplace or wood-burning stove on a stone or tiled hearth. The dark metal finish integrates well within both historic period rooms and contemporary minimalist schemes requiring textural contrast.

Keep the steel dry to prevent surface oxidisation. Remove dust and residue using fine grade wire wool lubricated with mineral oil, then apply a thin coat of microcrystalline wax to seal the metal surface.
