FAQs

Mid-century watercolour paintings often embrace expressive brushwork, muted or earthy palettes, and a focus on natural subjects like botanicals and still life, reflecting the artistic shifts away from strict academic realism toward more evocative interpretations.

Traditional watercolour pieces from this era typically utilise high-rag watercolour paper, transparent pigment washes, and occasionally gouache highlights, mounted behind protective glass within wooden or gesso frames.

Authenticity is generally verified through artist signatures, period-appropriate framing materials, paper ageing characteristics, and occasionally gallery labels or documentation on the reverse.

Original paintings add character and depth when hung as focal points on neutral walls, paired with traditional wooden frames to anchor contemporary spaces or incorporated into gallery walls with mixed-era art.

Watercolours should be displayed away from direct sunlight to prevent pigment fading and housed behind UV-filtering glass with acid-free backing boards to protect the paper from moisture and degradation.
