Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Victorian pedestal desks are characterised by robust construction, classical proportions, and the frequent use of dark timbers such as mahogany, often featuring inset leather writing surfaces and multiple functional drawers.

These desks are traditionally built from solid mahogany and secondary softwoods, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction, turned wooden knobs, and a leather skiver applied to the top surface.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage consistent with age, traditional brass or wooden hardware, and manual lining of the drawer interiors.

This piece works well as a focal point in a study or home office, contrasting sharply against minimalist walls or paired with modern seating to create a balanced, eclectic workspace.

Maintain the timber using quality beeswax applied sparingly, and protect the leather insert with specialist leather cream while keeping the desk away from direct sunlight and excessive heat sources.
