Shirvan carpets originate from the eastern Caucasus region, historically woven by village and nomadic weavers who utilised distinctive geometric motifs and saturated natural dyes.

Authentic pieces are traditionally crafted with handspun wool piles on wool or cotton foundations, utilizing symmetric or asymmetric knots and vegetable-derived dyes.

Authenticity is identified through irregularities in hand-knitting, natural colour variations known as abrash, the use of traditional wool warps, and characteristic regional iconography.

These textiles serve as focal point groundings in modern spaces, pairing effectively with minimalist furniture or acting as textural contrast against polished wooden flooring.

Preservation requires gentle vacuuming without rotating brushes, professional organic washing when necessary, and avoiding direct, prolonged exposure to harsh sunlight to protect natural dyes.
