Description

This great Persian carpet would be ideal for an elegant drawing room. Woven in Mey-Meh, a town in Central Persia some 30 miles from Joshaghan, fine carpets with the well-known 'Shrub' design were made there from the 18th century. This lovely carpet, dating to around 1890, is a fine example. Interestingly, the ubiquitous shrubs appear in the central medallion while the rest of the field is decorated with stylised trees and geometric ornaments. Note the really charming light-blue spandrels filled with diagonal rows of tiny petals. The borders are equally distinctive. The main border of rows of stars is very beautiful and finely drawn, and is complemented by the ivory chain guard stripes. The entire composition is very elegant and extremely decorative. Please note also the excellent size which is rarely found in formal Persian carpets. Cherished over the generations, this piece has survived in excellent condition. Professionally cleaned,
