66 X 96cm Early 19th Century Konya Yastic

19th century
Description

A very collectable and early Turkish cushion cover (Yastic). These small weavings are full of symbolism and mystical images. The central star is hanging in a deep blue firmament surrounded by other star-like points. Top and bottom the opposing green shapes resemble animals. A 200 year old rug showing commensurate wear and tear but still a fascinating document from a different time.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A yastik is a traditional Turkish hand-woven cushion cover or small face rug, historically produced in central Anatolia for domestic seating and storage.

These textiles were hand-knotted using locally sourced hand-spun sheep wool for both the pile and foundation, dyed with natural plant and insect dyes.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-spun wool construction, slight irregular variations in weaving symmetry, natural dye abrash colour shifts, and traditional tribal geometric motifs.

Small Anatolian woven textiles are frequently mounted and framed as wall art, displayed over tabletop surfaces, or layered above larger neutral carpets.

Keep the textile away from direct sunlight, vacuum gently without a rotating beater brush, and rely on professional textile conservators for periodic cleaning.
