Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mahogany became the premier timber for British cabinet making during the 18th century due to its durability and rich figure. Four-drawer dressing chests from the Georgian period were designed as functional storage solutions, featuring clean proportions and brass hardware.

These chests were constructed using solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers over pine corewood, with secondary timbers such as oak or pine used for the drawer linings. Drawers were traditionally assembled with hand-cut dovetail joints and fitted with cast brass drop handles.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints of irregular width, hand-planed back panels, and natural shrinkage or patina in the timber. Secondary drawer woods usually show oxidisation consistent with age alongside original brass keyhole escutcheons.

A dark mahogany chest provides grounding texture when positioned against neutral walls or contemporary wallpaper. It functions effectively as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living room when paired with modern table lamps and framed art.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources like radiators and avoid exposure to strong sunlight to prevent drying or fading.
