Silver Art Deco pocket watch and chain.
The watch has a good quality movement, 16 jewels, 3 adjustments, which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner cover which has images of medals, together with the wording “Remontoir, Ancre de Precision”. A remontoire (from the French remonter, meaning ''to wind'') is a small secondary source of power, a weight or spring, which runs the timekeeping mechanism. ''Ancre de precision'' means ''precision anchor'' and refers to a type of high-quality Swiss lever escapement used in mechanical watches. It is a sign of a well-made watch movement, indicating it has a reliable lever escapement, which is called an ''anchor''.
The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 900 silver and has Continental hallmarks. The hinged case back has an Art Deco design. The case is in good condition, just some unevenness to the back.
The acrylic lens is in lovely condition, just a short scratch to the
...edge.
The signed dial is in good original condition with original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.
The watch comes with a single silver chain, 27cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. The chain is hallmarked for Birmingham 1921 with a maker’s mark of JH&S, the London silversmith Joshua Horton & Son who used the Birmingham assay office. There is also a silver fob, hallmarked for 1916. The front of the fob has the ornate initials LHD, the reverse if free from inscription.
The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.
