Sold by: Aaron Nejad Rug Gallery

Probably woven in Kirshehir or environs in Central Turkey in the second half of the 19th century, this is a superb example of Anatolian village weaving. It has everything - soft plush wool, wonderful natural dyes and a design replete with the complexity of ancient Anatolian imagery. The raspberry field within the prayer niche is filled with anchor style ornaments. Note too, the intriguing panel at the tip of the prayer niche and the taupe inner border with rows of ''L'' shaped figures The colour combination is daring yet subtle, and the entire composition has great balance. This is a truly great Anatolian village rug, both highly collectible and decorative. Excellent original condition.
