Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Italian serpentine front commode is a low chest of drawers featuring a double-curved, wave-like front profile that swelled in the centre and receded at the sides, popularised during 18th-century European cabinetmaking.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid softwoods or hardwoods such as pine, poplar, or walnut, then coated with a gesso primer before hand-painting and fitting with cast metal hardware.

Look for hand-cut dovetailed joints, uneven planed backboards, natural wear on the drawer runners, and authentic age patina or oxidisation on the metal handles and lock escutcheons.

Position the commode against a neutral wall as a focal point, layering the top surface with balanced decorative objects such as table lamps, framed artwork, or ceramics.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth, avoid chemical sprays or wax polishes that build up on paintwork, and position away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent flaking.
