Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The Georgian period spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, from 1714 to 1830, characterised by classical proportions, architectural symmetry, and a transition from heavy oak to refined mahogany and walnut as dominant cabinetmaking woods.

Authentic pieces typically feature solid timbers such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, joined with hand-cut dovetails on the drawer carcasses and drawer boxes, accompanied by cast brass hardware like drop handles and escutcheons.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-sawn timber marks, irregularities in hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, period-correct brass fixings, and the presence of secondary woods like deal or pine used for internal drawer linings.

An antique chest of drawers provides warmth and historical contrast in contemporary spaces, functioning effectively as a statement anchor piece against minimalist neutral walls or paired with modern abstract art above.

Preservation requires maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct heat sources and sunlight, alongside occasional application of traditional beeswax to nourish the timber without sealing the pores.
