FAQs

Iron and brass beds gained popularity during the Victorian era in the mid-to-late 19th century, replacing heavy wooden beds due to advancements in industrial manufacturing and a growing focus on domestic hygiene.

These beds typically combine cast iron frames with brass rails, finials, and mounts, utilising gravitational wedge joints or threaded bolts to secure the headboard, footboard, and side rails together.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-poured iron castings, genuine brass components that show natural patination, and makers marks or registration numbers stamped into the metal frame.

An antique metal bed serves as a strong focal point in a modern bedroom and can be balanced by pairing it with crisp white linens, neutral textiles, and minimalist modern bedside furniture.

Preserve the finish by dusting with a dry cloth and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can strip the protective lacquer or damage the aged patina on the brass and iron surfaces.
