Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

FAQs

Late Georgian furniture, spanning the late 18th to early 19th century, is characterised by classical proportions, refined craftsmanship, and the prominent use of high-quality timbers such as mahogany.

Cabinet makers typically used solid mahogany and pine for structural carcases, accented with decorative veneers like flame mahogany and boxwood stringing, fitted with brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints, traditional timber shrinkage, hand-forged or cast brass fixings, and secondary woods consistent with the period, such as oak or pine.

Pairing a rich wood chest of drawers with neutral walls, minimalist modern art, or contemporary ceramic lamps creates a sophisticated balance between historic character and modern design.

Maintain antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying pure beeswax to nourish the finish.
