Description

George Hamilton Constantine 1878-1967.Sheffield painter of landscapes with figures and seascapes.He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.He did not need to exhibit his works widely as there was a steady demand from dealers here and New York.In the 1930s he became an assistant to Sir William Rothenstein who was Professor of Civic Art at Sheffield University.Constantine became Director the Graves Gallery in the 1950s. This attractive watercolour is housed in a quality modern giltwood frame with wash line mount. ‘ Whitby,Yorkshire’ signed watercolour inscribed Whitby,image size25x35 cms,framed size 49x60 cms provenance: with McTague of Harrogate
