This piece is a watercolour painting on paper titled Mending the Nets by Philip Naviasky, created in the Post-Impressionism style during the 1920 period. The composition depicts a coastal scene featuring figures seated along a shore mending fishing nets beside boats, executed in shades of blue, grey, and ochre with expressive brushwork and a wash technique. Visible details include delicate ink outlines, subtle colour washes creating depth, and the artist's signature alongside the date 1927 inscribed in the lower corner. The artwork is presented cleaned and framed in very good, ready-to-hang condition. The framed artwork measures 49 cm high, 57 cm wide, and 3 cm deep. It is suited for display in a domestic interior above a sideboard within a coastal retreat setting, adding a figurative marine element to a living room, hallway, or study wall.

Early 20th-century British coastal watercolours frequently feature working harbour scenes, fishing communities, and maritime activity, executed with fluid brushwork and atmospheric washes influenced by European Post-Impressionism.

Artists during the 1920s typically worked with water-soluble pigments applied onto heavy cotton rag paper, often incorporating graphite pencil or ink underdrawings to structure the figurative composition.

Authentic works from this period usually feature natural age toning to the paper substrate, period-appropriate signatures or dates in graphite or wash, and hand-applied watercolour techniques consistent with early 20th-century artistic movements.

Display the painting in a narrow wood frame with an acid-free mount to complement contemporary coastal, English country, or minimalist interiors without distracting from the painted pigments.

Keep watercolour artworks out of direct sunlight and high-humidity areas, framing them behind UV-filtering glass with acid-free museum-grade mountboard to prevent fading, paper degradation, and foxing.
