Description

A stunning fine antique Baktiari carpet, with the famous 'Garden' design, refined in a curvilinear medallion design, with birds and trees.  Rich vibrant colours of yellow, green, blue and red that make Baktiari carpets so interesting and wonderful to use.  Dating from circa 1920 approximately the dyes are good vegetable dyes and faded over there 100 years.  In remarkable excellent condition all over, with original fringes showing nearly all the way across both ends.

FAQs

Bakhtiari carpets originate from the Chahar Mahal region of Persia and are famous for their traditional compartment or garden panel designs, known as Khesti. These layouts display repeating floral motifs, cypress trees, and botanical elements within individual geometric frames.

These carpets are hand-knotted using durable wool pile tied onto a sturdy cotton or wool warp foundation. The yarn is traditionally coloured using plant-based natural dyes, giving the wool long-lasting colour saturation.

Authentic pieces feature dense wool construction with a heavy, thick feel, double-wefted knotting, and characteristic panel or medallion designs. Natural colour variations throughout the field, known as abrash, also indicate hand-dyed wool process.

Position the carpet centrally in a room with modern, clean-lined furniture to create visual contrast against its intricate geometry. The warm red and blue palette pairs effectively with natural timber floors, leather seating, and neutral wall tones.

Vacuum regularly using suction only to avoid damaging the wool fibres with a rotating brush. Rotate the carpet annually to equalise foot traffic wear and light exposure, and arrange professional wash cleaning when required.
