Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A campaign secretaire chest is a piece of portable military furniture incorporating both storage drawers and a fold-out or slant-front writing desk. Originally commissioned by military officers during the nineteenth century, these pieces were designed to be split into manageable sections for transport during campaigns.

Military campaign furniture was predominantly constructed from resilient hardwoods such as teak, mahogany, or camphor wood to withstand climate changes during travel. Construction features robust brass corner straps, flush-recessed drawer handles, and heavy iron or brass side carrying handles.

Authentic pieces feature flush-fitting brass hardware countersunk into the timber to prevent damage during transport. Look for two-section modular construction, side carrying handles, brass corner straps, and evidence of hand-cut dovetail joints.

A campaign secretaire chest serves as a compact desk and storage solution for home offices, alcoves, or living spaces. Its clean lines and functional brass hardware allow it to bridge traditional and contemporary schemes effectively.

Timber surfaces should be preserved using a natural beeswax polish applied along the grain, avoiding silicone sprays. Brass hardware should be cleaned with a dry microfibre cloth to retain historic patina, while leather writing surfaces require gentle cleaning and periodic conditioning.
