Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian bedsteads, produced between 1901 and 1910, shifted away from heavy Victorian ornamentation towards lighter, cleaner lines influenced by the Arts and Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. Common features include vertical slats, square posts, subtle floral or stylized carvings, and warm timber finishes such as oak or mahogany.

Bedsteads from this period were predominantly constructed using solid native hardwoods like oak, walnut, or mahogany for the headboard and footboard. These timber ends were joined by heavy cast iron side rails that provided structural support for a mattress base.

Authentic pieces generally feature drop-in iron side rail fittings, period joinery techniques such as mortise and tenon joints, and natural age-related patina on the timber. The carved elements typically exhibit hand-finished details characteristic of early 20th-century craftsmanship.

Pairing a dark or warm oak bedstead with crisp white or neutral linen bedsheets creates a balanced contrast between structure and soft texture. Complementary elements like minimalist bedside tables or muted wall paint help highlight the architectural slats and wood grain without cluttering the space.

Regularly dust the timber surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood moisture. Keep the bedstead away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent shrinking, splitting, or joint loosening over time.
