Qashqai spoon bags were traditionally woven by nomadic pastoralist women in south-west Persia for practical household storage, specifically designed to hold wooden spoons and ladles within tribal tents.

These items are typically constructed using hand-spun sheeps wool for both the warp and weft, often employing supplementary weft-float or slit-tapestry weaving techniques dyed with natural organic materials.

Authentic pieces display characteristic tribal motifs, hand-spun wool with slight irregularities, natural dye variations, and authentic wear consistent with utilitarian nomadic use rather than modern reproduction.

These pieces are frequently mounted on linen backgrounds and framed behind glass or hung directly from a small iron rod to serve as textural wall art in studies or living areas.

Preservation requires keeping the textile out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, gently vacuuming with mesh protection, and maintaining stable humidity levels to protect the natural wool fibres from insect damage.
