A fine quality 19th century Grand Tour Italian patinated bronze reduction of the ''Danaide with a bowl'' after the Roman 4th century BC marble original in the Gallery of Statues, Pio-Clementino Museum, Vatican. Presented on a circular stepped Marmo Rosso Levanto and Belgian Black marble viewing base typical of souvenirs produced in Rome during the 19th century for the Grand Tour. Super quality bronze signed ''A.Messina Roma'' for Antonio Messina, a Rome based foundry that cast both bronzes and silver. Original turning handle. Rome, circa 1870.
