Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour bronzes originated during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries when affluent travellers undertook educational trips across continental Europe. Italian foundries produced small-scale bronze replicas of famous classical Greek and Roman statues as souvenirs for these collectors.

These figures were traditionally cast in solid or hollow bronze using the lost-wax (cire perdue) process. After casting, metalworkers hand-chased the fine anatomical details and applied chemical patinas to achieve dark brown, olive, or black surface finishes before mounting them onto marble or stone bases.

Authentic period examples exhibit precise hand-finished detail, crisp muscular definition, and natural wear to the patina on high-relief areas. They typically feature heavy weight relative to their size, historical mounting techniques with hand-cut screws or square nuts, and occasionally foundry stamps or maker signatures.

A bronze statuette serves as a focal point on a mantelpiece, executive desk, or within a curated bookshelf display. Combining dark patinated bronze with lighter contemporary stone or minimalist timber surfaces creates an engaging textural contrast.

Regular dusting with a soft, dry bristle brush or microfibre cloth is recommended to remove dirt from crevices. Avoid water, abrasive cleansers, and harsh polish; applying a thin layer of microcrystalline wax once a year protects the original patina from atmospheric moisture.
