Antik Dragon Japanese & Other Fine Art has dated this piece to the 1920s.
The figure is full of expression and twisted in a spiral, where the heavy oriental belt is balanced by the impulse of the body and the tilt of the face. Unsigned. Was probably signed on the marble base, which has been changed. Ca. 35cm high (including base) x 19cm wide x 120cm deep, weight 2.55kg.

Excellent condition and patina.
Paul Philippe (1870–1930) was born in Thorn in Poland and studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, under the direction of Antonin Larroux (1859–1913). He exhibited with success at all the French salons. Philippe worked in both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, working in bronze, bronze and ivory and pure ivory. His figures are sought after worldwide by collectors.
