An Edwardian inlaid mahogany barometer is a traditional meteorological instrument housed in a wooden case, typically featuring decorative marquetry or stringing in the Sheraton revival style popular during the early 20th century.

These instruments are constructed primarily from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, often embellished with lighter contrasting wood inlays such as boxwood or satinwood, featuring brass bezels and glass dials.

Authentic pieces typically display period-appropriate hand-written or engraved dial faces, traditional mercury tubes where applicable, genuine wood ageing characteristics, and precise cabinet-making techniques distinct from modern reproductions.

An antique barometer can be mounted on a plain painted wall to serve as a focal point, pairing traditional craftsmanship with contemporary minimalist surroundings to create textural contrast.

Preservation involves keeping the instrument away from direct sunlight and dramatic humidity shifts, dusting the wood gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and avoiding chemical polishes.
