Beautiful Miniature Painting Birding After Boucher. Birding

19th century
Description

This is a delightful painting after Francois Boucher ( 1702-1770 ) dating from around 1890. The picture is superbly painted in bold gouache colours and depicts a pastoral scene with figures in the country catching wild songbirds.

It is beautifully framed in a good quality gilt bronze frame with decorative bronze inner mount inset into a striking black border that gives the painting an air of quality.

Francois Boucher was a French painter draughtsman and etcher who worked in the Rococo style. Boucher is known for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories and pastoral scenes. He was perhaps the most celebrated painter and decorative artist of the 18th century.

This is one of several good quality paintings in his style that we currently have available from the same collection. This one is the largest measuring 30 cms by 24 cms overall with the painting being 11 cms by 15.5 cms.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Rococo miniature paintings typically depict pastoral, romantic, or mythological scenes with lighthearted themes, soft colour palettes, and elaborate attention to detail inspired by 18th-century French masters like Francois Boucher.

Portrait miniatures were often executed using gouache or watercolour on vellum, ivory, card, or copper plates, and housed in gilded brass, giltwood, or velvet-lined frames.

Authentic pieces exhibit fine brushwork visible under magnification, age-consistent craquelure or fading, period-appropriate framing materials, and subjects dressed in historical 18th-century attire.

Miniature paintings function effectively as part of a curated gallery wall, displayed on an easel atop a mantlepiece, or grouped with small brass sconces to add scale and historic character to contemporary spaces.

Keep miniature paintings out of direct sunlight and high-humidity areas to prevent fading and material warping, and clean frame surfaces gently with a soft dry cloth without applying liquids.
