Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Library busts are sculpted portrait representations, historically rendered in marble or plaster, depicting prominent literary, philosophical, or historic figures. Popular during the Neoclassical period, they were traditionally displayed in private studies and institutional libraries to evoke a scholarly atmosphere and intellectual heritage.

These decorative items were cast using plaster of Paris poured into multi-piece gel or moulding plaster matrices. Reinforced internally with natural fibres or metal armature for structural integrity, the surfaces were often finished with gesso or wax patinas to simulate carved stone or marble.

Authentic period plaster pieces typically exhibit subtle surface age, including fine craquelure in the painted finish, minor chipping at base edges, and visible seams from traditional multi-part moulds. They generally display crisp cast details alongside evidence of hand-tooling around facial features and drapery.

Mount the wall bracket to display the bust as a focal architectural feature within a narrow alcove, hallway, or above a sideboard. Pairing plasterwork with dark timber furniture, framed monochrome art, or neutral walls creates a grounded contrast between classicism and contemporary design.

Clean plaster sculptures exclusively with a dry, soft-bristled brush or clean microfibre cloth to remove accumulated dust. Avoid using liquid cleaners, water, or chemical solvents, as moisture can degrade untreated plaster and dissolve original patinas or gesso coatings.
