Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

FAQs

Victorian fireplace accessories are characterised by heavy ornamentation, eclectic revivalism, and a preference for mixed metals such as polished brass and forged steel.

Traditional companion sets typically combined forged steel shafts for durability under heat with cast or turned brass handles and stands, often featuring detailed ornamentation.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit hand-finished details, weightiness from solid brass and iron, natural patination, and construction methods consistent with nineteenth-century metalworking.

They provide functional contrast and metallic warmth when placed beside a hearth, bridging traditional craftsmanship with contemporary minimalist or eclectic living spaces.

Preserve the original patina by dusting regularly and using gentle metal polishes sparingly on brass only, while keeping steel dry to prevent active corrosion.
