Latten is a durable copper-alloy similar to brass, historically used for crafting domestic items such as spoons, candlesticks, and flagons before the widespread use of modern white metals.

Early spoons were typically cast in moulds using alloys like latten, pewter, or bronze, after which the surface was hand-finished, hammered, and stamped with a makers mark.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct tool marks, natural patination of the alloy, characteristic flat stems, and contemporary makers stamps consistent with 17th-century metallurgical practices.

Antique metal objects can be showcased within glazed display cabinets, mounted on specialised display stands, or arranged on dedicated shelving to highlight their historical texture and form.

Preservation requires avoiding abrasive polishes and chemical cleaners; instead, gently dusting with a dry microfiber cloth maintains the stable historical patination and prevents surface degradation.
