FAQs

A dip rail bedstead features a curved top rail that dips downward in the centre, a popular design motif seen in metal and brass beds produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

These beds were typically constructed using a combination of heavy cast iron for the structural framework and uprights, complemented by solid brass or brass-plated components for finials and top rails.

Authentic pieces often feature hand-poured iron joints, manufacturer stamps or registration numbers, heavy components, and genuine patination on the brass finials rather than modern electroplated finishes.

Pairing the dark metal and brass framework with neutral linens, textured throws, and modern lighting creates a balanced focal point that bridges traditional craftsmanship with modern minimalist aesthetics.

Dust regularly with a dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners which can strip the protective historical patina from the brass components and oxidised iron surfaces.
