Edwardian furniture, produced during the reign of King Edward VII from 1901 to 1910, frequently drew inspiration from earlier periods such as Sheraton, Chippendale, and Hepplewhite, resulting in lighter, more graceful forms compared to the heavy proportions of the Victorian era.

These pieces were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or satinwood, featuring mortise and tenon joinery, intricately carved wooden frames, and traditional coil-sprung or webbed upholstery foundations.

Authentic pieces generally display period-appropriate hand-carved detailing, traditional joinery methods, aged patination on the timber frame, and hardware or construction characteristics consistent with early 20th-century manufacturing.

Preservation involves keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, regularly dusting carved wooden surfaces with a dry cloth, and using professional cleaning methods for the upholstery.

Pairing a traditional antique settee with contemporary elements, such as minimalist walls or modern textiles, creates a balanced eclectic scheme that highlights the historical craftsmanship while maintaining a current aesthetic.
