Antique English Pewter Church Flagon by John Webber I of Barnstaple, Devon. 1662 - 1703.

Description

Description:

English pewter church flagon with tapering drum body, low fillet and a large flared foot, large scroll handle with heart shaped thumbpiece. Makers hallmarks to the top of the lid, clear touch mark dated 1662 to the inside of the base. Initials to back of thumbpiece.

Circa 1680.

These flagon were for communion use in Churches.

Condition:

Excellent condition with a lightly polished silver grey finish and some small traces of light oxide.

Repairs: it would appear that the top handle has been re-attached to the body and the lid re-attached to the hinge at some point in the flagons life.

Size:

Height to top of thumbpiece: 10.00 in (25.00cm).

Base diameter: 6.50in (16.5cm).

Pewter Society: - PS85.

Cotterell: Old Pewter: Its Makers and Marks - OP5016.
