FAQs

The Arts and Crafts movement emerged in the late 19th century as a reaction against machine production, championing traditional craftsmanship, hand-carved details, and the use of local natural materials like oak.

Solid English oak was the primary material of choice for Arts and Crafts woodworkers due to its durability, pronounced grain pattern, and historical association with traditional carpentry.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit tool marks from hand-chiselling, natural timber shrinkage, uniform patination accumulated over decades, and construction methods consistent with late Victorian or Edwardian workshops.

Mounting carved wooden plaques on a plain, neutral wall allows the intricate textures and deep wood tones to serve as a focal point, balancing modern minimalist spaces with historical warmth.

Preservation involves dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth and occasionally applying a microcrystalline wax to nourish the wood without sealing in moisture or attracting dirt.
