Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chairback settee is a bench designed to resemble two or three connected dining chairs, featuring splats, open arms, and a unified seat frame. The style originated in early 18th-century Britain during the reign of George II, drawing on Queen Anne and early Georgian proportions.

These settees are constructed primarily from hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or mahogany, using hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery. Key features include vase-shaped back splats, cabriole front legs, pad feet, and drop-in or upholstered seats.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-sawn wood grain variations, wooden peg construction, and natural wear along the rails and feet. Later 19th and 20th-century reproductions often exhibit machine-sawn timber, uniform patination, and modern mechanical fasteners.

A chairback settee functions well in entryways, wide hallways, or positioned against the back of a central sofa in open-plan spaces. Its open frame and elevated cabriole legs provide seating without visually crowding a contemporary room scheme.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish annually to protect the wood finish. Fabric upholstery should be vacuumed gently with a soft brush attachment and spot-cleaned using fabric-appropriate solutions.
