Description

Gents 1940s Timor WWW military wrist watch.

UK POSTAGE ONLY

The watch has a Timor calibre 6060 hand-winding movement (15 jewels, 4 adjustments) which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the Timor name, and it is all protected by an inner dust cover.

The watch measures 36mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition with just the odd minor mark, nothing serious at all.

The case back is signed on both the inside and outside of the case back with the Timor name, along with the military arrow, or pheon, and the WWW (Wrist, Watch, Waterproof) mark. In the 1940s, 12 watch making companies, including Timor, were commissioned to make watches for the British Ministry of Defence, all working to the same set of specifications and the watches are known today as the Dirty Dozen.

The lens has light marking but is very acceptable.

With regards to the dial, we suspect that this was repainted many years ago, possibly after the war to make the watch looks less military, and more suitable for civilian use.

A new NATO style strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Declaration

The Vintage Wrist Watch Company has dated this Vintage Military Wristwatch to the 1940s.

Dealers Notes

ALL PRICES INCLUDE UK POSTAGE (because of GPSR legislation, we no longer post items less than 100 years old to Europe, including Northern Ireland).

Please contact us regarding international shipping.

All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.

We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.

Credit / debit card purchases up to £300 can be made over the telephone on 01386 750238 or you can proceed via the 'Purchase Antique' button on each listing page. Alternatively, there is a Paypal payment link if you scroll down the page and we also accept bank transfers.

We are an on-line only business and do not have facilities for callers. Our offices are open from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.

With regards to appraisals / valuations, we receive a huge number of information requests each day and unfortunately do not have the manpower to deal with them all individually. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

WWW stands for Watch, Wrist, Waterproof, a designation issued by the British Ministry of Defence during the Second World War to standardise field timepieces for ground troops.

These watches typically featured stainless steel or nickel-chromium plated cases, acrylic crystals, and durable fabric or leather straps designed for field conditions.

Authentic pieces feature specific military engravings on the case back, such as the broad arrow mark and WWW designation, alongside manual-wind mechanical movements.

Pair this timepiece with casual tailored clothing or utilitarian wear, allowing its historic provenance and understated dial design to serve as a subtle focal point.

Keep the movement serviced regularly by a professional horologist, avoid exposure to moisture unless pressure tested, and store in a temperature-controlled environment.
