FAQs

Victorian chests of drawers were produced during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), evolving from the heavy, formal styles of the early period into more functional and varied designs later in the era, heavily influenced by industrial manufacturing and shifting domestic needs.

These pieces were typically constructed using solid timbers and veneers such as mahogany, walnut, or oak, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, turned wooden knobs, and brass escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit period characteristics such as hand-cut dovetails, secondary woods like pine or oak on drawer linings, natural patination, and tool marks consistent with nineteenth-century cabinet-making techniques.

An antique chest of drawers can serve as a grounding anchor in a contemporary bedroom or hallway, offering functional storage while introducing rich wood tones and historical texture to modern minimalist schemes.

Preserve antique wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, maintaining stable indoor humidity, and occasionally applying appropriate beeswax polish while avoiding silicone-based commercial sprays.
