Secure Transit

FAQs

The Georgian style spans the reigns of the first four British monarchs named George, characterised by classical proportions, symmetry, and a transition from heavy walnut to fine mahogany timber.

Authentic pieces typically utilise dense tropical hardwoods like mahogany, often featuring hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer construction, oak or pine secondary woods, and solid brass hardware.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage patterns, original backboards, patination of the wood, and historical tool marks consistent with eighteenth or early nineteenth-century craftsmanship.

This piece works effectively as a focal storage unit in a bedroom or hallway, contrasting against neutral walls and modern minimalist decor to highlight its rich timber grain and historical craftsmanship.

Preserve the timber by maintaining stable humidity levels away from direct heat sources, applying natural beeswax periodically, and avoiding synthetic chemical polishes that can degrade the historic finish.
