Description

Fabulous wool and dyes on this antique Ushak runner from the late 19th century, it has been reduced in length, with the end borders having been re-woven expertly to create a useable size and done very much in keeping with the original and traditional antique dyes. Woven with pale blue, greenish dyes, and warm reds and oranges famous of Ushak.

Runners from Turkey of this proportion were more often commissioned for large homes in the West in the late 19th century, they have been used but well looked after.  Their pile is thick and glossy, with soft wool you would expect from these densely piled antique Turkish runners.  The weave on Ushak rugs, carpets and runners is generally rather coarse using bigger knotting than Persian rugs.  but they have wonderful drawings and open designs.
