Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian brass bedsteads are characteristically constructed from tubular brass or brass-veneered iron, featuring decorative cast joints, turned posts, knop finials, and vertical spindles. Introduced widely in the mid-nineteenth century, these frames reflected the eras emphasis on hygiene and industrial manufacturing advancements.

These bedsteads typically featured iron internal framing for structural integrity, wrapped in polished brass tubing. Components were secured using cast iron corner dovetail joints (often called iron cast joints), which allowed the frame to be easily disassembled for transport.

Authentic pieces generally feature heavy cast-iron side rails with dovetail joints, hand-finished brass turned elements, and original castors. Natural surface oxidisation, minor wear around fixing points, and unpolished cast components on unseen areas also indicate period production.

Pairing a brass bedstead with crisp white linens or muted earth tones creates a balanced focal point in contemporary or traditional spaces. Combining the metallic finish with natural timber side tables or textured soft furnishings helps soften the overall aesthetic.

Unlacquered brass should be dusted regularly with a soft cloth and cleaned gently with specialized metal polish to manage oxidisation. Lacquered finishes require only a damp microfibre cloth, as abrasive polishes can degrade the protective coating.
