Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian brass bedsteads became prominent during the mid-to-late 19th century as manufacturing techniques improved. Valued for their hygienic properties compared to traditional wooden frames, metal beds gained widespread popularity across Britain and Europe during the Industrial Revolution.

These bedsteads were typically constructed using hollow brass tubing surrounding structural iron rods or cast iron side rails. Decorative components often featured cast brass joints, porcelain or brass castors, and turned brass ball finials.

Authentic period pieces feature heavy cast iron corner joints, often referred to as dovetail or chime joints, which slot together without modern bolts. Natural oxidisation, unevenness in hand-drawn brass tubing, and original cast iron wheels or porcelain castors also indicate period origin.

A brass bedstead acts as a warm focal point when paired with crisp white or neutral linen bedding. Contrast the metallic tones against dark painted walls, such as navy or deep green, or soft botanical patterns to integrate the piece into contemporary or classic schemes.

Dust the frame regularly using a soft microfibre cloth to prevent dirt accumulation. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive metal polishes if the original protective lacquer or aged patina is present, as aggressive cleaning can strip historical surface finishes.
