Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This area rug dates from the 1920 period and follows a traditional Persian style, constructed from wool and cotton materials with a hand-knotted finish. The piece displays a red central field complemented by a detailed blue and ivory medallion, dark navy spandrels, and multi-stripe floral borders ending in white fringes. Minimal all over wear appears across the tightly knotted surface, showing the authentic signs of age of the antique wool pile. The item measures 200 cm wide by 130 cm deep and 1 cm high, providing a substantial textile floor covering for a living room, study, or hallway interior scheme. Placed beneath a coffee table or in a central seating area, the rug introduces warmth and pattern into an English Country House setting, anchoring traditional furniture arrangements with its historic motifs and rich colour palette.

FAQs

Traditional Persian rugs are hand-knotted floor coverings historically produced across Persia, featuring intricate medallion designs, complex botanical motifs, and multi-layered border patterns. They are woven using asymmetrical knots and often feature rich palette combinations including red, navy blue, and ivory tones.

Persian carpets are primarily crafted using hand-spun sheeps wool for the pile, knotted onto a sturdy foundation usually composed of cotton or wool warp and weft threads. The wool yarns are historically coloured using natural dyes derived from plants, minerals, and insects.

Authentic hand-knotted rugs exhibit slight variations in pattern symmetry and knot density visible on the reverse side. Unlike machine-made alternatives, the fringes are an extension of the rugs structural warp threads rather than being sewn on after production.

An antique Persian rug serves as an anchor for a room, pairing well with contemporary furniture to create visual contrast or alongside dark wood furniture in traditional settings. Placing the rug centrally beneath seating groups or dining tables defines distinct functional zones within an open-plan layout.

Regular maintenance requires suction-only vacuuming without a rotating brush bar to protect the pile and wool fibres. Spills should be blotted immediately with a clean dry cloth, and professional cleaning by a specialist Oriental rug restorer is recommended every few years.
