Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French breakfront armoire is a large freestanding wardrobe distinguished by a central section that steps forward beyond the adjacent side bays. Originating in 18th-century France, these pieces frequently showcase arched cornices, panelled doors, and ornamental mouldings.

French provincial armoires are traditionally constructed from regional hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or cherry using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. They feature panelled doors, hand-carved motifs, and cast brass or iron fittings including long escutcheon plates and barrel hinges.

Louis XV style armoires are identified by asymmetrical curvilinear details, sinuous mouldings, carved rocaille or floral scrollwork, arched central cornices, and short cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet.

A large oak armoire serves as a focal piece in a master bedroom, dressing room, or expansive hallway. To complement modern interiors, balance its visual weight with simple linen textiles, neutral paint palettes, and minimal decorative accessories.

Dust the timber regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the woods lustre. Avoid placing the armoire near direct heat sources or in damp environments to prevent timber movement or mirror desilvering.
