Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

FAQs

Art Deco furniture is characterised by sleek geometric lines, symmetry, and a focus on luxurious materials such as exotic wood veneers. Originating in the 1920s and flourishing in the 1930s, this style embraced both traditional craftsmanship and industrial modernity.

Cabinet makers during this era frequently utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and oak, often enhanced by highly figured decorative veneers like burr walnut. Accents in contrasting dark woods, chromium, and Bakelite were also common.

Authentic pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, symmetrical veneer patterns, and period-accurate hardware such as geometric handles and escutcheons. Examination of the interior construction and secondary woods often reveals construction techniques consistent with the 1930s.

Pairing this piece with neutral walls allows the intricate grain of the wood veneer to stand out as a focal point. Complement the geometric silhouette with minimalist lighting, plain textiles, and understated metallic accessories to maintain a balanced scheme.

Maintain antique veneer by keeping the furniture out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent the wood from drying out and warping. Clean regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and periodically nourish the surface with quality beeswax.
