Country House and Eastern Interiors has dated this Antique Khamseh Tribal Rug to the 19th Century.

Third quarter of the 19th century.
A very appealing and not often seen earlier tribal weaving by this arab group.
The cypress trees placed on their sides at the outer inside edge within the ivory coloured field is an unusual design feature as are the recumberant bird motifs with stylised plant forms eminating from their backs.
The central diamond shaped medallions differ in design to each other and I like the way the light red colour is used throughout to good effect with minor emphasis on the few other colours used within the central overall theme.
The guard stripes have a light yellow and a turquoise as a contrast.
All in all a very unusual and quite remarkable tribal weaving with ggood age.
All ends and sides secured. All over low pile.
Size is 8 foot 3 inches by 5 foot. 252cm X 153cm. At widest points. Fringes not measured in size. All woollen hand knotted construction.
