The watch has a stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is signed

Army & Navy Co-Operative Society Ltd, 117 Victoria Street, London, SW with the number 4850.

The Army & Navy Co-Op Society was founded in 1871, it was formed by a group of army and navy officers for the supply of articles of domestic consumption and general use to its members at the lowest remunerative rates. In 1934, the Society became Army & Navy Stores Ltd, and traded until 1981.

The watch measures 48mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two covers for London 1888, with a maker’s mark for the London watch case maker George Thickbroom. The case has engine turned detail to both the front and the back, although it has worn down with age. There are a couple of very minor indentations, nothing serious at all. The front has a central lens surrounded by enamel filled numbers.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.

The dial carries the number 4850, as also found on the movement. The dial is in lovely condition and has pin-set blued steel hands, including the special half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
