Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

Victorian pedestal desks gained immense popularity during the 19th century as administrative functions expanded and home offices became more common among the middle and upper classes, evolving from earlier Georgian partner and library tables.

These desks were typically constructed using solid mahogany frames, drawer linings of secondary woods like oak or pine, hand-cut dovetail joints, and decorative veneers often enhanced with marquetry, stringing, or brass hardware.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage consistent with age, authentic patination, and traditional hand-applied finishes like shellac or wax rather than modern polyurethane.

An antique pedestal desk anchors a contemporary study or living space by providing a strong focal point, pairing effectively with minimalist modern seating and clean-lined architectural surroundings to create a balanced eclectic aesthetic.

Preserve the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, and applying occasional natural beeswax to maintain the moisture and lustre of the wood.
