FAQs

The Meiji period spans from 1868 to 1912, marking an era of extraordinary craftsmanship in Japanese metalwork, where master artisans created intricate bronzes for both domestic use and export.

These pieces were typically crafted using the lost-wax casting method, often employing custom copper and tin alloy mixtures finished with chemical patination to achieve deep brown or black colour tones.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-finished chisel marks, natural wear consistent with age, heavy weight, and frequently feature artist signatures or foundry marks either cast directly into the base or applied in relief.

An antique bronze can be used as a focal sculptural object on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or coffee table, contrasting effectively against contemporary minimalism or complementing a study or library setting.

Bronze should be kept away from direct moisture and humidity, dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth, and should never be polished with abrasive chemicals to preserve its historical patina.
