We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Coastal landscape paintings of this era typically depict daily life in fishing villages, sand dunes, and maritime activity. Artists focused on capturing natural light, weather conditions, and regional atmospheric qualities using textured brushwork and natural colour palettes.

Traditional works were executed using oil-based pigments applied to stretched linen canvas or solid timber panels. Frames were typically constructed from carved or moulded wood, frequently finished with gilding, plaster detailing, or dark timber stains.

Authenticity is assessed by examining natural craquelure patterns across the paint surface, surface oxidisation, and signs of age on the reverse stretcher bars or wood panel. Period-correct framing construction and artist signatures or monograms also provide key visual evidence.

An antique painting can serve as a focal point when mounted above a sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantel. Combining historic artworks with contemporary minimalist furniture or natural materials like linen and timber creates a balanced visual contrast.

Paintings should be positioned away from direct sunlight, heating sources, and areas of high humidity to prevent cracking or warping. Dusting should be performed gently using a soft, dry brush without applying liquid cleaners or water.
