Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century Arts and Crafts fire set comprises a shovel, a pair of tongs, and a poker, formed from solid brass and steel with a polished gold finish. The collection displays traditional riveted construction, elegant turned handles, and fluted finials, complemented by a distinctive pierced sunburst motif on the shovel blade. Each tool measures 69 cm in length and exhibits visible antique character through light surface oxidation appropriate for its age. Suitable for placement beside an active fireplace hearth in an English Country house setting, the implements remain structurally sound and ready for daily domestic application. The coordinated handles and warm metallic tones provide a practical and decorative accent for period interiors. Maintenance requires only occasional polishing to preserve the brass lustre during routine seasonal use.

FAQs

Arts and Crafts fire irons feature handcrafted metalwork, stylized natural motifs such as sunbursts or foliage, and functional forms inspired by late 19th-century craft revivals.

Authentic antique sets were predominantly forged from solid brass, wrought iron, or cast bronze, often incorporating steel ends on pokers to withstand direct contact with hot coals.

Original pieces display cast or hand-hammered detailing, riveted joints, fluted or turned finials, and genuine age-related surface oxidisation near functional joints and tips.

These pieces serve as functional accents alongside open hearths or wood-burning stoves, adding warm metallic tones to contemporary living rooms or traditional fireplaces.

Wipe down with a soft dry cloth after use, apply a gentle brass polish periodically to maintain lustre, and avoid harsh abrasive cleaners that remove historical patina.
