Antique Central Asian Uzbek Gajeri Kilim, Bold Graphic Design, Circa 1900.

1900 - 1920
Description

Size: 5ft 11in x 6ft 7in (180 x 200cm).

Antique Uzbek Gajeri / Ghudjeri kilim with outstanding colour and design.

Circa 1900.

This is a traditional manner of weaving among the Uzbeks of Central Asia. The designs are "typical" of this type, often referred to as "Gajeri", which refers to the technique of weaving, a brocade type weave with the dyed warps hanging loose on the back and brought to the front when necessary to make the design. This example has very bold graphic design and wonderful natural dye colours throughout. These are often woven in narrow strips and then stitched together. This example may once have been part of a larger item.

Excellent condition, very slight wear, a few historic marks to the surface.

Stock Number: D-0269.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Uzbek Gajeri kilims are traditional flat-woven textiles crafted by nomadic weavers in Central Asia, characterised by bold geometric bands, vivid dye work, and distinctive tribal symbols.

These flatweaves were traditionally hand-spun using locally sourced wool for both the warp and weft, occasionally incorporating cotton accents and coloured with plant-based dyes.

Authentic period examples feature natural dye variations along the weave, narrow woven bands stitched together, and slight hand-loomed irregularities in the geometric motifs.

A graphic flatweave rug acts as a visual anchor on timber or polished concrete floors, pairing seamlessly with minimalist, mid-century modern, or bohemian decor.

Vacuum gently without a rotating beater bar, blot liquid spills immediately with cold water and a mild detergent, and consult a professional rug restorer for deep cleaning.
